Eni’s double discoveries

Eni made a significant gas discovery offshore Libya and found more gas than anticipated at its Merakes-1 well offshore Indonesia.

Eni made a significant gas and condensates find at the B1-16/4 well in the Bahr Essalam South exploration prospect located in Contract Area D, about 82km from the coast and 22km from the production field of Bahr Essalam.

The well was drilled at 150m water depth, where gas and condensates were encountered in the Metlaoui Formation of Eocene age.

During production testing, the well showed to produce 29 MMscf/d and above 600 b/d of condensate. Eni estimates that the well will deliver about 50 MMscf/d and 1000 b/d of condensate.

“This exploration success further confirms the enormous potential of Libyan gas resources. With an important string of development projects in its pipeline, both ongoing and planned, Eni aims at capitalizing the significant commercial discoveries made in past years in Area D, and is undertaking an important exploration program to support the constantly growing domestic demand,” Eni said in a statement.

Eni is currently active offshore Libya with three drilling rigs in Contract Area D. The company has been present in Libya since 1959 and currently produces approximately 350,000 boe/d in the country.

Eni, through its subsidiary Eni North Africa BV, is operator of Contract Area D with 100% working interest in exploration phase.

More at Merakes

Eni completed post drilling studies that indicate a significant upside gas potential at the Merakes-1, offshore Indonesia with an estimated 2 Tcf of gas.

Merakes-1 is located in the East Sepinggan block, offshore East Kalimantan (Borneo), about 170km south of the Bontang LNG plant and just 35km south of Jangkrik field.

Eni says that new studies upgrade the potential of Merakes from the previously estimated 1.3 Tcf to up to 2 Tcf of gas in place.

In October, Eni drilled at 1372m water depth, encountering a 60m section of high quality sandstones. Eni says it will bring forward the appraisal program to evaluate the possible fast track development of the finding, optimizing synergies with the near Jangkrik field.

Eni’s average equity production in Indonesia amounts to 17,000 boe/d.

Eni is the operator of the East Sepinggan Block with an 85% interest.
