Statoil to drill in PL 124 with Deepsea Bergen

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Statoil a drilling permit for wells 6507/8-9 and 6507/8-U2 in the Norwegian Sea.

The wells will be drilled with the Deepsea Bergen drilling facility, after concluding the drilling of appraisal well 31/7-2 SA for Faroe Petroleum Noreg in production license (PL) 740.

The drilling program for wells 6507/8-9 and 6507/9-U2 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well and pilot well in PL 124. The area in this permit consists of a part of block 6507/8. The wells will be drilled about 9km north of the Heidrun platform.

PL 124 was awarded on 28 February 1986 in the 10-B licensing round.  Well 6507/8-9 is the eighth wildcat well to be drilled in the license.

The permit is contingent upon the operator obtaining all other consents and permits required by other authorities before the drilling activity commences.

Statoil is the operator of PL 124 with 35% stake. Partners include ConocoPhillips (27.9%), Petoro (27.1%) and Eni Norge (10%).
