Jumbo installs Ikhwezi riser

Dutch contractor Jumbo has completed a contract for PetroSA installing a subsea MEG riser on the Ikhwezi development FA platform offshore South Africa.

The contract was awarded by PetroSA on 5 December, offshore installation started early January using Jumbo's DP2 heavy lift crane vessel Fairplayer and completed by the end of January.

The scope of work included all installation engineering, mobilization to South Africa, load-out of 3in. flexible MEG riser and protection/stabilization mattresses (Cape Town), pre-survey and preparations at FA Platform, installation (J-tube pull-in), protection and stabilization of MEG riser at PetroSA’s FA Platform, and “as built” post installation survey.

Last year Fairplayer installed PetroSA’s subsea structures in the Ikhwezi field.

Ikhwezi is PetroSA’s plan to prolong the life of the Mossgas Gas-To-Liquids plant near Mossel Bay by tapping into gas reserves of the F-O field.

The F-O field, developed as a subsea tie-back, is 40km south-east of the existing FA production platform off the south coast of South Africa.
