Nucore Group forms, appoints CEO

A new company, Nucore Group, has been established to create a topside engineering services group of companies.

Backed by Lonsdale Capital Partners, Nucore Group currently oversees the management of Oteac and HVAC & Refrigeration Engineering (HVAC&R).  The move follows Oteac’s US$13 million (£10.25 million) acquisition of HVAC&R in 2015 and is designed to aid the international growth of both businesses.

Oteac is a specialist provider of integrated fire and safety products along with maintenance and testing services.  HVAC&R provides a range of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration equipment and services as well as manufacturing ATEX equipment for harsh and hazardous environments.  Earlier this year both companies relocated to purpose built, shared facilities becoming the first tenants at the Core Business Park at Murcar, Aberdeen.

Working together, the complementary trading companies can provide a range of products and services to clients, whilst combining core skills and expertise.  With offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Inverness, Nucore employs over 130 people and operates worldwide supporting projects in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas.

In addition, Nucore Group has appointed Graham Thomson as its CEO. Thomson brings over 28 years of oil and gas industry experience to Nucore Group, 22 of which were with Sparrows Offshore where he held senior roles in the UAE and US, and was a member of its executive board.  Latterly he was chief operating officer for ACE Winches in the UK.

“The businesses within the group continue to win new work despite the difficult conditions the oil and gas sector is experiencing,” said Thomson. “I believe there is further potential to internationalize Oteac’s presence by building on HVAC&R’s more established international footprint.”
