Subsea event to mark 10th anniversary

Industry body Subsea UK is rebranding its flagship event for its tenth anniversary. The major exhibition and conference will now be known around the world as Subsea Expo and will stretch to three days as opposed to two in previous years.

Subsea Expo will be held in the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre from the 5th – 7th of February 2014, and is expected to attract up to 5000 delegates and 150 exhibitors. This represents significant growth of the show which began in 2004 with 40 exhibitors and around 200 delegates.

Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK said: “Our annual exhibition and conference has grown to become a leading event in the international subsea calendar. The time is right to rebrand and review the format to ensure it is topical, relevant and fresh and continues to attract the subsea fraternity from around the world.”

This announcement comes as Subsea UK reports reaching its highest membership numbers ever. There are now 280 subsea companies, representing the entire supply chain, subscribed to Subsea UK. This is almost 40% of the total industry in Britain.

In addition to the new name, Subsea Expo in 2014 will have a new format over the three days. The conference on the first day will see leading figures subsea sharing their views on the industry, its future, and its challenges. A brand new technology showcase will provide a forum for companies to present on new technology and innovations particularly in the areas of subsea fields of the future, subsea integrity management and offshore renewables.

To help companies exploit new markets, there will be an area run by UKTI on global opportunities which will include one-to-one appointments and will attract visitors on inward missions from key markets such as Brazil, Australia and West Africa.

The third and final morning is all about “Getting into Subsea” when individuals interested in a career in this industry will be able to visit the exhibition and businesses will have the opportunity to find out how to bolster their recruitment capability through Subsea UK’s "Grow Your Own Talent" initiative.

The annual subsea awards dinner will take place during the event on the evening of 5th of February.

Mr Gordon added: “As a leading global event, entirely focused on the subsea sector, Subsea Expo, is an opportunity to reassert the importance of the industry in the UK and overseas. Now worth almost £9 billion and employing around 60,000 people, the UK sector continues to lead the way around the world thanks to its experience, expertise, technology and skills.

“This will be a must attend event for everyone in the industry from around the world to find out why the UK is a world-leader, learn about the challenges facing us in the future, see new technological applications and new technology in action and network with senior decision makers from across the supply chain.”

Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge; pre-registration is recommended and delegates can register for the conference on line at www.subseaexpo.com
