Diamond Offshore's Ocean Victory semisubmersible drilling rig has arrived in Trinidad and Tobago to start drilling operations for BP.
The rig, which is currently taking on personnel, equipment and supplies, in port, is due to move to the Juniper field, some 50mi off the south east coast of Trinidad, to start drilling mid-May.
Juniper is BP Trinidad and Tobago's first in subsea field development, comprising five subsea wells tied into the Juniper platform.
The Ocean Victory, which is capable of drilling to total depths of up to 25,000ft, in up to 6000ft water depth, travelled 2168 nautical miles over 23 days from Mississippi in the US for the work, which is being carried out under an initial two-year contract with BP.
Previously, the SKD Jaya and the Rowan EXL II have worked for BP in Trinidad and Tobago.
BP Trinitdad and Tobago (BPTT) Regional President Norman Christie said: “The arrival of the Diamond Ocean Victory rig is an important milestone in the execution of the Juniper campaign. In adding a third rig to our fleet, BPTT continues to demonstrate continued commitment to Trinidad and Tobago. This development is an important part of the future for BPTT because it will assist the company in meeting its natural gas commitments to the market.”
BPTT operates in 904,000 acres off Trinidad’s east coast. BPTT has 13 offshore platforms and two onshore processing facilities.
