Eni announced the start of production from the Denise-Karawan project (DEKA) with partner BP, through the new subsea well Denise South 6 at a gas rate of 1.8 MMcm/d and approximately 800bbl/d of associated condensates.
The Denise South 6 is the first development well of the DEKA Project located in the Temsah Concession Area, in the offshore Nile Delta, Egypt. The well is located approximately 65km north of Port Said, in a 100m water depth.
The DEKA project aims at the development of gas discoveries with five subsea wells, the installation of subsea production systems together with sealines and gas processing at the El Gamil Gas Plant onshore.
The project’s peak production is expected by 1Q 2015 with a total gross gas rate of about 6.5MMcm/d.
Eni holds a 50% interest in Temsah through its fully owned affiliate IEOC with BP (50%). IEOC operates Temsah through its joint venture partner Petrobel.
Eni is the largest international energy player in Egypt and has had a presence in the country since 1954. In 2013, the Eni’s oil and natural gas equity production averaged approximately 228,000boe/d.
BP announced a deepwater gas discovery in offshore East Nile Delta in September 2013. At that time, BP Egypt said standalone and tie-back solutions to the Temsah infrastructure development were being evaluated.
