Eni Vietnam 3D seismic begins

KrisEnergy began its 570sq km 3D seismic survey in Block 120, offshore Vietnam using the CGG Amadeus vessel.

Block 120 overlies Quang Ngai Graben and Tri Ton Horst, which covers an area of 6869sq km with water depths ranging from 50-650m. The survey is scheduled for completion in 23 days.

The graben connects the Song Hong and Qiongdongnan basins in the north to the Phu Khanh basin in the south.

The survey was designed to image the carbonate and basement sections of the Ca Lang prospect and associated leads on the Tri Ton Horst. It will tie into the 502sq km 3D seismic dataset previously acquired in 2012.

The 1993 120-CS-1X exploration well encountered good oil shows, whilst the Ca Ngu-1 well drilled in 2013 intersected a 20m oil and gas column. Both confirmed the existence of a petroleum system in the area. The Ca Lang prospect lies approximately 25km to the southeast of the Ca Ngu-1 location.

“In the last 14 months, we have undertaken detailed analysis of our geological model for Block 120, incorporating the data from the Ca Ngu-1 well,” commented Chris Gibson-Robinson, KrisEnergy’s director for exploration and production.

“Now our attention is focused on the Ca Lang area and we look forward to being able to more clearly map and further de-risk the prospect, which we believe has a high chance of intersecting hydrocarbons in multiple objectives.”

KrisEnergy holds a 33.33% working interest in Block 120 and is partnered by Eni Vietnam B.V., as the operator with 66.67% working interest.

On 9 March 2015, KrisEnergy expressed its attempt to increase working interest and take over operatorship of Block 105 from Eni Vietnam, subject to the approval of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam. Located in the Fulg of Tonkin, Block 105 coveres an area of 7192sq km with water depths ranging from 20-80m.

In 2013, exploration well Cua Lo-1 was drilled, KrisEnergy said, which confirmed the existence of a petroleum system within the block. The firm is currently in discussions with other parties who have expressed an interest in joining them in Block 105.
