Kosmos spuds Yakaar off Senegal

Kosmos Energy started the second phase of its multi-well exploration drilling program offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

The Atwood Achiever drillship is now on location offshore Senegal in the Cayar Offshore Profond block and has started drilling operations on the first exploration well in the program targeting the Yakaar prospect (formerly referred to as Teranga West).

The Yakaar prospect is located approximately 40km west of the Teranga discovery.

Last month, the Dallas-based company said it was on a mission to “drill the industry’s most prospective exploration wells,” in its second phase of exploration offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

Kosmos partnered with supermajor BP in December 2016, as the duo planned three exploration wells for this year, leading to a new LNG hub.
