Statoil inks Garantiana tieback study

Wood Group has been awarded two new contracts by Statoil to deliver concept and feasibility studies to their Norwegian North Sea assets.

Wood Group will deliver a topside concept study evaluating the tie in of Total’s Garantiana field development to Statoil’s Gullfaks B and Visund facilities.

The Garantiana oil and gas field was discovered in 2012, in the northern Norwegian North Sea in production license 554, in 382-405m water depth. It contains an estimated at 11-14 MMcum of and 0.5-0.6 Bcm of gas.

According to an environmental statement submitted in May, Total plans to drill on Garantiana in 2019-2020, with first production targeted for 2020/2021.

Concept select is due in September. Options include a standalone development using a floating production vessel, or a subsea tieback to either the Knarr, Visund, or Gullfaks facilities, with the field expected to produce for 10-15 years.

The concept, estimated at about NOK 5-10 billion, would involve three production wells and three water injection wells, to be completed by a semisubmersible drilling rig.

Total E&P Norge is operator with 40% interest, with partners Aker BP and Point Resources.

In addition, Wood Group will provide a feasibility study for Statoil’s Tampen oil pipeline, covering subsea pipelines and risers and topside modifications.

The two contracts are awarded under an evergreen master services agreement secured with Statoil in May 2016, to support the life cycles of their offshore and onshore facilities. They will be delivered by Wood Group’s offices in Norway.

Garantiana is in the Tampen Spur area and is on the western edge of the Viking Grave north. The 100m thick reservoir covers 5-6sq km contains oil and associated gas in the Lower Jura Cook formation.

The crude oil of Garantia is characterized as a medium-density waxy crude oil (0.873g / ml). The content of asphaltenes is high (0.80% by weight) and the crude oil, compared to other Norwegian crude oils, a high wax content (10.7 wt.%).
