PetroVietnam, Murphy sign MOU

On 8 July 2015, the general secretary of Vietnam’s communist party, Nguyen Phu Trong, witnessed the signing of important cooperation documents between enterprises of Vietnam and the US at the US Chamber of Commerce.

Nguyen Xuan Son, chairman of the board of directors at Petrovietnam and Roger Jenkins, president and chief executive at Murphy Oil, signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote oil and gas projects in Vietnam, the US and elsewhere.

The targeted projects include the development of Block B gas project, Malay, the Tho Chu basin in Vietnam, some blocks in Cuu Long basin and the Gulf of Mexico.

PetroVietnam’s chairman Nguyen Xuan Son, vice president Nguyen Quoc Thap, and the heads of petroleum exploration, petroleum production, international relations, investment and development, as well as the leaders of PVEP, PVGas, PVD and DQS met with Raymond Jones, who is the ExxonMobil vice president in AsiaPacific, and senior officials of the group at Washington Hilton hotel.

The agreement continues the mutual development activities of PetroVietnam and ExxonMobil which includes the framework agreement between Petrovietnam and ExxonMobil on the deployment of Blue Whale Field Development Project offshore Vietnam that was signed in July 2013. That project expects first gas in 2021.
