VIDEO: 10,000-tonne Mariner topside lift

The first of eight topside modules, which will make up Statoil's Mariner platform, have been installed offshore Shetland in the UK North Sea.

The 10,000-tonne Mariner A utility module was lifted into place by the Saipem 7000 as planned. Now, seven more modules and a flare are being installed.

Mariner is one of the largest projects currently under development on the UK Continental Shelf.

Mariner is on the East Shetland Platform of the UK North Sea, about 150km east of the Shetland Isles. The heavy oil field has an estimated 250 MMbo with an average plateau production expected at about 55,000 b/d.
