Golden Eagle PUQ deck installation

Watch as Nexen’s video gives insight into the four-day operation needed to lift and install the production, utilities and quarters (PUQ) deck for the Golden Eagle area development offshore, approximatley 70km northeast of Aberdeen.

The Saipem Heavy Lift Vessel S7000 began the process of lifting the 11,000-tonne PU deck onto its jacket structure. The deck, measuring 98.5m in length, 46m in width and 58m in height, had traveled 7000mi., passing through the Suez Canal from Dubai using the heavy transport vessel MV Fjord.

Golden Eagle is the second largest oil discovery in the UK North Sea since 2001, when the Buzzard field was discovered. First oil production from Golden Eagle is forecast for late 2014 and the development is expected to have an initial gross production rate of up to 70,000boe/d.

Nexen is the operator of Golden Eagle with a 36.54% interest along with partners Maersk Oil North Sea UK (31.56%), Suncor Energy UK (26.69%) and Edinburgh Oil and Gas (5.21%).
