Production at Statoil's Hammerfest LNG plant in Melkøya was shut after a power failure on Monday, the company announced on 19 November 2012.

The power went down just before 2:30 p.m. and remained down for approximately 20 minutes. Statoil said production will remain shut at Hammerfest until the facility can be inspected and checked for any possible damage on Tuesday.

While no one was injured during the incident, the emergency response organization was mobilized and personnel were evacuated from the plant's inner area to its outer area, the company said. Statoil said authorities have been notified and the incident will be investigated.

This is the third incident at Hammerfest this year. In July, the plant was shut down for two weeks over concerns that ice would form in the plant's cooling circuits following an ingression of water into its natural gas dryers. In January, a firewater line ruptured, interrupting production at the facility for approximately one week.

The onshore Hammerfest LNG at Melkoslash;ya receives gas from Snøhvit field in the Barents Sea for export. Statoil's share of production from Snøhvit is approximately 50,000 boepd.

Statoil operates Snøhvit field with 36.8% interest. Its partners include Petoro (30%), Total (18.4%), GDF Suez (12%) and RWE (2.8%)
