David Roberts resigns as Marathon Oil's COO

David E. Roberts, Jr. has resigned as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Marathon Oil Corporation, the company confirmed on 10 December 2012.

Roberts' resignation is effective 14 December.

"Roberts has been an important contributor to the Company's upstream success," Marathon said in a statement. "The Company's board of directors and management team thank him for the contributions he has made to Marathon and offer their best wishes to him in his future endeavors."

Roberts joined the company in 2006. He previously served as the head of Marathon's worldwide upstream operations prior to his appointment to EVP and COO in 2011.

Marathon has not yet named a replacement.
