Aminex secures Tanzania license

Published

East Africa-focused exploration firm Aminex is to carry out a new seismic survey offshore Tanzania after being granted an appraisal license.

The license, in the Rovuma production sharing agreement (PSA) area, covers the Ntorya-1 discovery well, drilled in 2012, and will last for two years.

The new survey is planned for the autumn of this year and will form part of a larger survey to delineate other leads and prospects within the Ruvuma PSA, says Aminex.

The Rovuma PSA appraisal licence agreement follows Aminex being given an extension to its exploration license in the same area in May this year.

To aid its efforts in the region, Aminex and its partner in the Ruvuma PSA are currently in talks with additional industry partners to farm into the Ruvuma PSA.

Aminex says an independent estimate of gas discovered in Ntorya-1 is 178 billion cu ft in place.

The company estimates the potential for a total prospective (recoverable) resource of more than 4 trillion cu ft in all the prospects currently identified within the 6078 sq km of the Ruvuma PSA.

Aminex is operator on the Rovuma PSA, holding 75% equity, with partner Solo Oil, holding the remaining 25%.
