Latest Falklands seismic starts

Noble Energy Inc. has started a 3D seismic survey over its licence areas to the south and east of the Falkland Islands using the PGS Ramform Titan.

The survey, the third to be acquired in the area this year, could take up to four months to complete and will cover the mid-Cretaceous Hersilia fan complex within the northern area licences, says partner UK-listed independent Falkland Oil & Gas (FOGL).

On completion of the latest survey, Noble and FOGL will have acquired more than 10,000km sq 3D data equivalent to more than 40 North Sea blocks. 

Both companies plan to start drilling operations in the basin in late 2014. 

Interpretation of fast-track data from the two earlier 3D seismic surveys is ongoing and has already identified a number of large prospects within the Diomedia fan complex, said FOGL.

The new is also looking at prospects within the Fault Block area, adjacent to the Darwin discovery.
