Barents seismic cooperation

Seismic acquisition firms Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) and TGS have announced new contracts and an expanded co-operation agreement in the Barents Sea.

The two firms said they will increase the number of blocks covered in the Barents Sea cooperation agreement from 11 to 17. In addition, TGS will increase its investment in all the 17 blocks.

Multi-client surveys in the area are already complete. The contribution from TGS will amount to about US$3.4 million.

Separately, EMGS has signed a data licensing agreement, worth about US$1.2 million, for the provision of 3D EM data from EMGS's multi-client data library in the Barents Sea.

The agreement contains an uplift model, which would see EMGS receive an additional sum if the customer is awarded blocks in future licensing rounds in Norway.

TGS is to start a 3D multi-client seismic survey, The Nerites 3D, covering 8300sq km in the Great Australian Bight, offshore South Australia.

The survey, due to start in early January, will cover two of the newly released petroleum exploration blocks in the Great Australian Bight, designated EPP 44 and EPP 45, mostly in the Bight's deep water Ceduna Sub-Basin.

On completion, TGS’ portfolio of 3D multi-client coverage offshore Australia will exceed 30,000sq km.

The new seismic data will be acquired by the Dolphin Geophysical vessel, M/V Polar Duchess.

The survey will be acquired with a large 12 streamer configuration with separations above 100m, and 8km streamer length. Dolphin's SHarp broadband acquisition technique will be used.

Data processing will be performed by TGS using its Clari-Fi broadband processing technology. Preliminary data will be available beginning Q4 2014.
