OAA winners shine - More than 500 industry professionals came together at the sparkling 28th Offshore Achievement Awards ceremony in Aberdeen.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section organized and hosted the awards, “the industry Oscars”, supported by Offshore Engineer, for the third consecutive year.

Myanmar announces offshore winners - The government of Myanmar (Burma) has named Chevron, BG Group, Statoil, Woodside Energy, Shell, and ENI, among others, as selected candidates for its 2013 offshore licensing round.

The move follows the lifting of Western sanctions in 2012, after Myanmar ended 15 years of military rule in 2010.

Greenpeace scales West Alpha - Greenpeace has said five of its 14 activists have scaled the West Alpha semisubmersible drilling rig offshore Norway in protest against ExxonMobil’s plans to drill in the Russian Arctic.

The protest has been staged on the 25th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The rig, on which the activists unfurled a banner stating “No Exxon Valdez in Russian Arctic”, is due to be used by ExxonMobil for drilling in the Kara Sea, offshore Russia, later this year.
