Dry wells offshore Norway

Two dry exploration well results have been announced offshore Norway.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said the Statoil Petroleum operated wildcat well 7324/2-1, "Apollo," which was the first well in production licence (PL)615, about 45km north of the 7324/8-1 Wisting Central discovery, was dry.

The well, drilled using the Transocean Spitsbergen semisubmersible drilling rig, is about 350km north of Hammerfest and was targeting reservoir rocks from the Middle Jurassic to Late Triassic Age (the Realgrunnen sub-group). A secondary exploration target was reservoir rocks from the Late Triassic Age (the Snadd formation).

Well 7324/2-1 encountered reservoir rocks about 15m thick, with good reservoir quality, in the Stø formation in the Realgrunnen sub-group. In the Snadd formation, about 170m of reservoir rocks were encountered, with mostly poor reservoir quality and just a few metres with good reservoir quality. The well is dry. Data acquisition and sampling have been carried out.

The Transocean Spitsbergen will now move on to drill wildcat well 7325/1-1 in the same production licence.

Meanwhile, Det norske oljeselskap said the the E.ON E&P Norge-operated 6507/5-7 exploration well on the Terne prospect in PL558 in the Norwegian Sea did not encounter hydrocarbons.

The well was drilled by the Borgland Dolphin semisubmersible drilling rig. E.ON E&P Norge has 30% interest in PL558, with partners PGNIG Upstream International (30%), Petrolia Norway (10%) and Petoro (20%).
