Aibel inks Statoil frame agreement

Norway's Aibel has topped a recent string of contacts with a framework agreement with Statoil covering the supply of personnel to Statoil's projects in Norway and abroad.

The agreement is in addition to Aibel's existing framework agreements with Statoil and is valid for one year, from 1 August 2014, with an option to extend for one further year.

The agreement follows a contract to a contract for the hook-up of new living quarters to the Oseberg C platform.

The project, called the Oseberg C Continuous Drilling (LQ Extension) project, is an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI). Read more: Aibel gets Oseberg gig

Earlier in July, Aibel also won a contract with Statoil for FEED and Engineering & Management Assistance (EMA) of substructures for the Hywind Scotland Pilot Park offshore wind farm. Read more: Aibel links Hywind contract

"This is an excellent recognition of our employees' expertise and the quality of the projects we carry out for Statoil," says EVP M&M and modifications in Aibel, Jan Ståle Skår, commenting on the latest contract.

Initially, services will be supplied in Norway but the agreement also includes the option for work abroad.

Aibel added: "The framework agreement provides Aibel with an opportunity for alternative employment during periods of varying activity within maintenance and modification in its own projects."

Aker Solutions recently said it was redploying staff, due to a downturn in maintenance and modification work in Norway.

"The offshore maintenance and modifications market in Norway has weakened considerably this year, causing overcapacity and weighing on earnings in the MMO segment,'' Aker Solutions said 7 July.

Commenting on their latest contract, Skår said: "In addition to improved stability for the company it also provides our employees with more security and opportunities to experience new challenges. Many of these employees are familiar with the processes and requirements in Statoil. The agreement is therefore also advantageous to Statoil."

The agreement covers a wide range of consultancy services within technical assistance and project administration.
