Technip picks up Juniper EPIC

BP Trinidad and Tobago (BPTT) awarded Technip an engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning lump sum contract for the development of the Juniper project, off the southeast coast of Trinidad.

BPTT announced the sanction of the Juniper offshore project in August, that involves the construction of an unmanned platform and associated subsea infrastructure.

Technip says the “substantial” contract ranges between US$322.9 million (€250 million) and $645.8 million (€500 million).

The scope of work consists of design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, load out and mechanical completion of 4300-tonne topsides that can process 590MMscf/d of gas and a 6100-tonne jacket.

Technip says the contract for BPTT also covers the design, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, transport, installation and pre-commissioning of:

  • five, 10in. and 8in. internal diameter flexible flowlines,
  • 26in. outside diameter, 10km concrete coated rigid subsea pipeline,
  • an extensive diving campaign to support BPTT’s LNG train and field turnaround,
  • large number of subsea structures and tie-in spools.

Technip will also be responsible for the transport and installation of BPTT’s supplied umbilicals, trees and flying leads. Overall design, detailed engineering and project management will be performed by Technip’s operating center in Houston, TX. Platform fabrication will be done in Trinidad using a local fabricator and Technip’s Flexi France facility will manufacture the flexible pipes.

Technip’s S-Lay pipelay vessel, the G-1200 (pictured), will install the rigid pipelines, as additional vessels from Technip's fleet will install the flexibles as well as umbilicals, and provide construction work support.

Technip, along with its subsidiary Genesis, have been involved in the FEED, project planning and detailed engineering work on the project, which began in 2012.

The Juniper facility will take gas from the Corallita and Lantana fields, 50 mi. off the coast of Trinidad in 360ft water depth. The development includes five subsea wells and will have a production capacity of approximately 590MMcf/d.

Juniper will become BPTT’s 14th offshore production facility. Fabrication is expected to begin 4Q 2014 with drilling to follow in 2015 and first gas expected in 2017.
