Stone brings deepwater Cardona online

Stone Energy’s Cardona deepwater development in the US Gulf of Mexico came online in November ahead of its sanctioned schedule and under budget.

Cardona is located in Mississippi Canyon 29 (MC 29) and consists of two wells, MC 29 #4 and MC 29 #5, that are being drilled by the ENSCO 8502 rig.

Initial production testing that started in late November on the two wells, will be closely monitored with flow rates ramping up over a four-week period. Stone Energy expects the wells to reach a combined gross production volume of 12,000boe/d during that time period.

The Cardona wells are flowing to Stone Energy’s 100% owned and operated Pompano platform. The Cardona subsea facility allows for the tie-in of two additional wells, MC 29 #6 and MC 29 #7 that the company plans to drill in 2015.

Stone Energy says the execution of the Cardona project is projected to bring significant production and cash flow to the company.

“We hope to build on this success as we initiate our multi-year deep water drilling program in mid-2015, which we expect will feature both development and exploration drilling," Stone said in a statement.

In February, Stone announced encountered 84ft of net oil pay at MC 29 #4.

Stone operates and owns 65% of the Cardona development with partner Hunt Petroleum (35%).

In addition, the Noble Energy-operated Madison exploration well that Stone holds a 40% interest, was spudded in October 2014 and is expected to be at the targeted depth in early 2015. Madison is located in Mississippi Canyon 479.

In 1Q 2015, the company expects to begin drilling at both the Vernaccia prospect in Mississippi Canyon 34/35 and the Harrier prospect located in Mississippi Canyon 118. Stone owns 32% interest in Vernaccia and 37% in Harrier.
