CNIM gets Petrofac contract

Petrofac awarded CNIMa contract to design, build and commission a cooling system consisting of two custom-made absorption chillers to be installed aboard Petrofac’s new JSD6000 deepwater derrick lay vessel.

The JSD6000 will be available in 2017.

CNIM says that for the first time in industry, absorption chillers will be used aboard an offshore vessel to cool process equipment.

By using the waste heat from the ship’s engines, CNIM Absorption Chillers will produce cold power with no impact on fuel consumption and emissions and require no toxic refrigerants and no CFCs, unlike traditional compression technology.

CNIM Absorption Chillers are the result of the takeover of the absorption chiller and heat pump business of the German engineering company INVEN Absorption GmbH, which has been developing and installing absorption machines throughout the world over the last 20 years.

By combining INVEN’s technology and CNIM’s outstanding production facility capabilities, CNIM Absorption Chillers target the energy efficiency market in the oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, energy production and shipbuilding industries.

This turnkey offering, which includes the design and manufacture of the equipment as well as all maintenance services, complements offers by CNIM’s other various entities and subsidiaries specialized in waste-to-energy and biomass-to-energy conversion, flue-gas treatment, refurbishment of thermal power plants and industrial boiler houses.

“CNIM Absorption Chillers will contribute to delivering the greenest and most environmentally friendly vessel of its category,” says Yves Inbona, Petrofac managing director for offshore capital projects business.
