Drydocks wins Johan Sverdrup contract

Norway's Kvaerner has chosen Dubai-based Drydocks World to fabricate components for Statoil's Norwegian North Sea Johan Sverdrup riser platform jacket.

Drydocks World will carry out the fabrication of pile clusters and floatation tanks including surface protection for the Johan Sverdrup Riser platform jacket.

The pile clusters will form the base of the jacket where the structure is piled to the seabed, and the tanks will be used for launching and installation of the jackets on site.

Kværner Verdal won the US$261 million riser platform jacket contract in January, following letter of intent, which Statoil entered into with Kværner in 2014, for two of the four jackets for Johan Sverdrup. The riser platform jacket is due to be delivered in summer 2017.

Kvaerner is also contracted to deliver a topsides for the project and had high hopes of winning the Johan Sverdrup drilling topside contract, but lost out to Aibel.

Johan Sverdrup is on the Utsira High in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, 155km west of Stavanger. It is one of the five biggest oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf. The reservoir is about 1900m deep, in 110-120m water depth, and covers about 200sq km.

Statoil says that as of 2015, investment costs for full field development are estimated to be in the region of $22.3-28.9 billion, with recoverable resources of between 1.7 and 3.0 billion boe.

Drydocks World says it will be fabricating to the stringent NORSOK safety and quality standards.

Drydocks World is currently fabricating a 2000-ton jacket and wellhead platform for the Technip Rashid C Platform.

It is also working on modules for the Shell Prelude FLNG project, which will be assembled in Korea to form the world’s largest turret mooring system.
