VIDEO: Aasta Hansteen heavy lift

Statoil has released a video of a heavy lift as part of its Aasta Hansteen spar integration in Hyundai Heavy Industries' yard in South Korea.

Weighing 2200-tonne and measuring 50 X 20 X 25m, the heavy lift of this "mega module" was a big milestone in the construction of the hull of the Aasta Hansteen spar platform, says Statoil.

It was lifted into place on 19 November and is the first of four mega modules to be lifted into place at the yard in Ulsan, using a new crane barge with a capacity of 10,000-tonne.

Building mega modules at ground level that are subsequently lifted into position reduces required work overhead, thus improving safety. Aasta Hansteen in the Norwegian Sea will be the world’s largest Spar platform.

Last month, Statoil announced the project had suffered a one-year delay, with costs set to increase 9%.
