Noble Energy cut first steel on its giant Leviathan natural gas project, offshore Israel.

“We are excited to join Israel Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz and partners to make the first steel cut for the Leviathan natural gas project offshore Israel, where first gas is targeted by year-end 2019,” Noble Energy said earlier this week in a LinkedIn posting.
In late February, Noble announced it sanctioned the US$3.75 billion phase one of the mega-discovery project. Partners, Delek Drilling and Avner Oil, approved the development plan on 12 December.
Leviathan is 130km offshore Israel, and sits in1600m water depth. It is estimated to contain 22 Tcf of natural gas.
Leviathan’s initial development includes four subsea wells, each capable of flowing more than 300 MMcf/d of natural gas. Initial proved reserve bookings are estimated to be 9.4 Tcf gross.
In 2017, Noble and the Leviathan partners plan to drill one to two Leviathan development wells. Completion activity for all four producer wells, including two previously drilled, is expected in 2018.
Noble anticipates to complete project installation and initiate commissioning in Q4 2019, with delivery of first gas targeted for the end of 2019.
Earlier this month, Wood Group started detailed engineering on the Leviathan field development platform after completing front-end engineering and design on the project.
