Helix inks Hornsea One trenching

Helix Energy Solutions subsidiary Canyon Offshore has been awarded a contract by Siem Offshore Contractors for the provision of trenching services on DONG Energy’s Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm Project One.

Canyon Offshore’s award will require the trenching of approximately 140km of inner-array grid cables on the wind farm which will have been laid onto the seabed by Siem Offshore Contractors.

In order to provide the optimum trenching solution to bury the inner-array grid cables, Canyon Offshore will use both jetting and cutting methodology with its Jet Trencher, T1200 and its hard ground trencher, i-Trencher. Both systems, together with two work class remotely operated vehicles, will be deployed from a single support vessel, the chartered Grand Canyon I, with operations beginning in Q4 2018.

Management of the operations will be provided from Canyon Offshore Limited’s Aberdeen base.

“The UK leads the world in offshore wind and the industry continues to grow. This is great news not only for our low carbon electricity needs but also for the many skilled suppliers and contractors that are becoming part of this booming supply chain,” says Duncan Clark, Hornsea Project One director.

In November 2016, and building further upon the recent establishment of its UK office in Aberdeen Scotland, Siem Offshore Contractors was awarded a contract for the installation of the inner-array grid cable system for the Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm Project One by DONG Energy Wind Power.
