Russia's President Vladimir Putin visited Allseas' mega-vessel, the Pioneering Spirit, to symbolically launch of the alignment of the shallow and deep-water sections of Gazprom's TurkStream gas pipeline in the Black Sea.

Putin toured the Pioneering Spirit and also had a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller aboard the vessel, which is helping to lay the 900km pipeline from Russia to Turkey across the Black Sea to supply southern and southeastern Europe, said the Kremlin in a statement. The annual planned capacity is 31.5 Bcm.

Construction of the pipeline started on May 7 using Allseas' Audacia pipelay vessel, which was later joined by the Pioneering Spirit, following its removal of the Shell Brent Delta topsides in the UK North Sea.
