Pemex restructures E&P subsidiary

Pemex’s board of directors approved a restructuring plan for its subsidiary Pemex Exploration and Production (PEP) on 22 May, the Mexican national oil company announced.

The board of directors created a steering committee for PEP, designating Juan Javier Hinojosa Puebla, director of development and production; José Antonio Escalera Alcocer, exploration director; and Gustavo Hernández García, chief operating officer.

The decision to form a new committee to oversee PEP’s activities, headed by Hinojosa Puebla, came just two weeks after then-PEP Director General Gustavo Hernández García asked to be reassigned following two deadly accidents on rigs in the Bay of Campeche in one month.

A restructuring plan for Mexican national oil company was approved by the board of directors back in November. The plan then was to reorganize Pemex into two main units and five smaller subsidiaries. At the time, Pemex CEO Emilio Lozoya Austin said in a statement that the restructuring resulted from a rigorous analysis that redefined the company strategy and promoted the modernization of Pemex.
