Blocks 8 and 9 are located near the boundary of Cypriot’s waters.

North Leil is located in Block 9, which covers 5105sq km and is in 2100-2800m water depth. Karawan is located in Block 8, that covers 4565sq km and is in water depths ranging from 2000-2500m.

Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954 and according to the company, is the main producer in the country with equity of approximately 210,000boe/d.

Eni is the operator in both concessions. The company, through subsidiary IEOC, holds 100% interest in North Leil and 50% interest in Karawan, with partner with BP (50%).

Egypt’s government recently signed six new agreements for oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of Suez and in the Western Desert, with minimum investments of approximately US$5.271 million and a signature bonus of $124 million to drill 41 wells.

Also in Egypt, Eni began production from the Denise-Karawan project (DEKA) with partner BP, through the new subsea well Denise South 6 at a gas rate of 1.8MMcm/d and approximately 800b/d of associated condensates.

The Denise South 6 is the first development well of the DEKA Project located in the Temsah concession area, in the offshore Nile Delta, Egypt. The DEKA project aims at the development of gas discoveries with five subsea wells, the installation of subsea production systems, together with sealines and gas processing at the El Gamil Gas Plant onshore. Peak production is expected this quarter, with a total gross gas rate of about 6.5MMcm/d.

Eni holds a 50% interest in Temsah through IEOC with BP (50%).  IEOC operates Temsah through its joint venture partner Petrobel.
