WDS gets Santos GLNG contract

The Santos Gladstone liquefied natural gas (GLNG) project is moving closer to completion with the award of another contract. The Santos GLNG joint venture awarded WDS Ltd. a construction contract for the Roma West Phase 2 of the Santos GLNG project in Queensland, Australia.

Under the terms of the agreements, WDS is responsible for the installation of facilities for 28 wells and includes the connected gas and water gathering systems and high voltage power.

The project is set to begin in early 2015.

The Santos GLNG is an US$18.5 billion venture that will convert coal seam natural gas to LNG for export to global markets. The project involves the development of gas fields in the Bowen and Surat basins, the construction of a 420km underground gas transmission pipeline from Roma to Gladstone, and a two-train LNG processing facility on Curtis Island, Gladstone.

Earlier this month, Santos GLNG completed the first of its three major gas processing hubs.

In October, Santos GLNG fed natural gas into its 420km gas transmission pipeline for the first time using its primary compressor station in the Fairview field.

In September, the final two modules arrived for the Santos GLNG project. The modules were built in the Philippines and make up the two LNG processing units that will convert natural gas into liquid.

Santos GLNG is a joint venture between Santos (30%), Petronas (27.5%), Total (27.5%) and Kogas (15%).
