Seabird to shoot 2D off West Africa with Harrier Explorer

SeaBird Exploration Plc received a contract award to use the MV Harrier Explorer for a 2D seismic survey in West Africa.

The letter of award is for a survey with a minimum size of 2000 km, valued at approximately US$2million. The project is expected to start this month, November 2014, and will have an estimated duration of 20 days.

The 81m-long MV Harrier Explorer is a 2D long-offset/source vessel that was built in 1979 and joined the Seabird fleet after renovations in 2007.

The vessel carries a 12,000m-long ION Solid 2Hz Digistreamer equipped with Teledyne T-2BX geophones. It has six airgun subarrays capable of generating pulses up to 8000cu in.

It was used for a survey off Barbados in 2012-2013, then for a 6000km survey in the Barents Sea in the first half of 2013, followed by a 5000km multiclient survey. This past summer, it was used to acquire 2500km off southwest Ireland, one of two multi-client surveys off northwest Europe.

SeaBird specializes in high quality operations within the high end of the source vessel and 2D market, as well as in the shallow/deep water 2D/3D and 4D market. Main focus for the company is proprietary seismic surveys (contract seismic).
