Maersk Voyager is the fourth in a series of four ultra deepwater drillships that were ordered in 2011 and represent a total investment of US$2.6 billion.

The ultra deepwater drillship is scheduled to be delivered from SHI in 4Q 2014. Maersk Voyager remains without a first contract.

“The short term floater market is challenged, but we remain in discussions with several oil companies regarding short term as well as long term drilling campaigns for the Maersk Voyager,” says Claus V. Hemmingsen, Maersk Drilling CEO and member of the executive board in the Maersk Group.

Maersk Drilling held a naming ceremony for its first ultra-deepwater drillship, Maersk Viking, at SHI in October 2013.

After delivery from the yard and mobilization to the US Gulf of Mexico, Maersk Viking will commence a three-year $610 million contract with ExxonMobil. The contract value includes mobilization, excluding cost escalation and performance bonus.

Maersk Drilling’s second and third ultra deepwater drillships were named Maersk Valiant andMaersk Venturer in January 2014.

After delivery from the yard, Maersk Valiant will start a three-year firm contract with ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil for their respective drilling programs in the US Gulf of Mexico. The contract includes options for up to an additional two years. The estimated contract value for the firm contract is $694 million including mobilization, but excluding cost escalation. A contract for Maersk Venturer is yet not signed.
