Equipment at Schlumberger’s new Geoengineering Laboratory in Houston allows scientists to obtain electrical properties for log calibrations at reservoir temperature and pressure. The 30,000ft2 facility enables highly complex core analysis covering permeability, capillary pressure, electrical properties, nuclear magnetic resonance, enhanced oil recovery evaluations and more. ‘A sustained healthy price of oil has driven a lot of people to increase investment, and the difficulty of obtaining oil offshore and in Arctic regions has increased interest in mature assets,’ said Schlumberger core physics domain head Mark Andersen during a tour of the laboratory. ‘With enhanced oil recovery, it’s extra important to understand the core properties.’
