First gas from Cygnus Bravo

First gas has been exported from Cygnus Bravo, a satellite to Engie E&P UK's Cygnus field development in the UK southern North Sea.

Cygnus Bravo is a wellhead platform 7km from Cygnus Alpha, to which first gas was exported on 1 August. From Cygnus Alpha, gas is exported 150km to Bacton gas terminal, via the Esmond Transmission System.

The overall Cygnus complex comprises four platforms and two subsea structures. Cygnus Alpha has been at a plateau of 250 MMcf/d since 13 December 2016, when the development came on stream.

The Cygnus field, containing some 110 MMboe 2P (proved and probable) reserves, covers about 250sq km, in <25m water depth, and contributes 5% of UK gas production. It is expected to produce for more than 20 years.

Bravo first gas was delivered from well B5 in one of the platform’s 10 well slots, out of 20 across the whole Cygnus complex. A further three Bravo wells are expected to come online during August with a total of five available in 2018, after drilling of well B1 is completed.

Engie and its parters are also evaluating further opportunities in the Greater Cygnus area with the aim of bringing additional volumes through Cygnus when capacity becomes available.

Maria Moraeus Hanssen, CEO of ENGIE E&P commented: “Gas from this second drill centre will contribute significantly to extending the plateau production that Cygnus Alpha has been achieving for the last eight months."

Cygnus is the largest single producing gas field in the UK North Sea (source: WoodMac) and also the largest gas basin discovery in the Southern North Sea for 30 years.

The field was discovered in 1988 and sanctioned in 2012, following the UK Government’s decision to introduce a field allowance for new large gas fields in shallow water.

Engie is opreator with 38.75% with partners Centrica (48.75%) and Bayerngas (12.5%).
