KrisEnergy’s Rayrai-1 hits oil

Singapore-based KrisEnergy hit oil at the first exploration well in the Wassana oil field, offshore Thailand.

Rayrai-1 intersected about 50ft of net oil-bearing sandstones after reaching a total depth of 1945m using the Key Gibraltar jackup rig.

The well is in the 4696sq km G10/48 license located in the southern section of the Pattani basin, in 170ft water depth and lies 2.25km north of the Niramai oil discovery drilled in 2009.

Once Rayrai-1 is plugged, the Key Gibraltar will begin drilling up to 15 Wassana development wells. Production at Wassana is scheduled to begin in 2H 2015 and plateau at up to 10,000 b/d of oil .

“This is a very satisfactory result as Rayrai-1 confirms the northerly extension of the Niramai hydrocarbon accumulation. We will further investigate this area once we have completed development drilling at the Wassana field to the south,” Chris Gibson-Robinson, KrisEnergy director E&P said.

The company is developing the Wassana oil field using a mobile offshore production unit producing to a floating storage offshore loading vessel.

Drilling at Rayrai-1 began last week to test the Early Miocene stacked fluvial sandstones on a north-south trending faulted basement high.

KrisEnergy is the operator of G10/48 and holds 89% working interest with partner Palang Sophon Offshore (11%).

The company’s Thai drilling campaign began in mid-March and was followed by a chain of oil and gas discoveries in the G6/48 license with the Rossukon series.

In April the company discovered 148ft of oil and gas pay at its Rossukon-3ST sidetrack well and 124ft of oil and gas was encountered at Rossukon-3.

In March, KrisEnergy hit at both Rossukon-2 and Rossukon-2ST finding 106ft and 140ft of oil and gas pay, respectively.
