Aker bags Coral FLNG contract

Aker Solutions has won a contract to deliver three umbilicals and associated equipment at ENI's Coral South project, Mozambique's first offshore field development.

The work scope includes three steel tube umbilicals that will total more than 19km in length and connect the Coral South floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility to the field's subsea production system. The umbilicals will be manufactured at Aker Solutions' plant in Moss, Norway, and are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2019.

Discovered in 2012, the Coral South development is the first energy project offshore Mozambique and is estimated to contain about 450 Bcm of natural gas.

The floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility will be designed to produce close to 3.4 MTPA of liquefied natural gas and will be moored in 2000m of water depth in the Area 4, offshore Mozambique.

Eni sanctioned the Coral South FLNG project on 1 June, as the Italian company signed the drilling, construction and installation contracts.

Coral South will be the first FLNG project offshore Africa and the third FLNG facility globally.

Earlier in June, the TechnipFMC-led joint venture TJS Consortium won an engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning and start-up (EPCIC) contract for the Coral South FLNG facility offshore Mozambique.

TJS Consortium will also cover the project’s associated risers and subsea flowlines system, as well as the installation of the umbilicals and subsea equipment.
