Thialf installs 10,000-tonne Montrose module

Photographer Jan Berghuis has caught these stunning images of the moment Heerema Marine Contractor's Thialf heavy lift vessel lifted into place a new, 10,000-tonne module for Talisman Sinopec Energy UK's new Montrose platform in the UK North Sea.

The operation happened on 7 May. On 8 May, a bridge link was then installed between the new platform and the older, 1975-installed Monstrose Alpha platform.

The work is part of Talisman's Montrose Arbroath (or MonArb) Area Redevelopment (MAR).

The MAR Project will integrate two new undeveloped fields, Cayley and Shaw, alongside a number of older ones. In total the project will lead to the production of a further 100m barrels of oil equivalent from the new fields. The project will extend the life of the existing fields to 2030.

The 5400-tonne jacket for the new platform was fabricated at OGN's yard in Newcastle, northeast England.

Overall, the project will develop around 100 MMbbl of new reserves and is expected to start production in 2016. Gross incremental production will peak at around 36,000 b/d.

Talisman Sinopec Energy UK Limited is the operator with a working interest of 58.97%, and Marubeni Oil & Gas (U.K.) Limited is the sole partner.
