Vitol dry off Ivory Coast

Vitol Energy is plugging and abandoning the Aigle-1X exploration well off the Ivory Coast after failing to encounter hydrocarbons, according to partner Genel Energy.

The well is located in Block Block CI-508, which covers an area of 1060sq km and is located offshore approximately 40km from San Pedro Western Côte d’Ivoire Basin.

Aigle-1x was being drilled to test the top-ranked prospect, which is known as Icterine-Reed, lying around 4200m below sea level. The well location was selected by the joint venture and presents an opportunity to test two separate prospects: one in rock of Cretaceous age and the other underneath in rock of Albian age. The joint venture was anticipating the well to target 300 MMbbl.

Vitol operates the block with 36% interest. Partners include Genel (24%), Petroci International (30%) and Petroci Holding (10%).
