Operations have been temporarily suspended on the Brugdan II well offshore Faroe Islands, Statoil announced on 27 November 2012.

Statoil and partners ExxonMobil and Atlantic Petroleum made the decision based on expected bad weather this winter. The Faroese government has allowed the program to be suspended until end of 2013, Statoil said.

In June, Brugdan II was spud by the semisubmersible COSL Pioneer. The well drilled into the sub-basalt section; however, it has not reached its primary objective, Statoil said. Brugdan II is located in license 006, 80km offshore the Faroe Islands at a water depth of 450m.

Statoil maintains 50% stake in the Brugdan license. ExxonMobil and Atlantic Petroleum hold 49% and 1%, respectively.
