Jubilee gas export outage

Oil output at the giant Jubilee field has been constrained after gas output was suspended 3 July due to technical issues with gas compression systems on the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Kwame Nkrumah, says operator Tullow Oil.

Production on the FPSO, stationed about 60km offshore Ghana, straddling the West Cape Three Points and Deepwater Tano licenses, is expected to resume by mid-August. Oil production is currently constrained to approximately 65,000 b/d - average production in 2014 was 102,000 b/d, and is under constant review but there is no effect on the Field’s reservoir or resources, the firm says.

Tullow has mobilized a team of experts to rectify the fault within the gas compression system and estimates that it will take approximately a further three weeks to reinstate gas export to the onshore gas plant at Atuabo and full oil production.

The 3 billion bbl Jubilee field was discovered in 2007 by Kosmos Energy by the Mahogany-1 (M-1) and Hyedua-1 (H-1) exploration wells. It was one of the largest oil finds that year. The Kwame Nkrumah FPSO, a converted tanker, has a facility capacity of 120,000 b/d.

The field came on stream in December 2010, and during 2014, the Jubilee partners produced the billionth (100 million) bbl from the field.

Tullow also operates the nearby TEN FPSO project. Installation on TEN started this month, with first oil on track for mid-2016.
