ONS 2016: Transition on the cards

The main theme of ONS 2016 has been decided. Transition will set the scene for the conference when the world’s energy industry gets together for ONS 2016 in Stavanger, Norway.

According to the organizers, transition is a relevant theme today in both the energy industry and the world. "There is general agreement that the world’s energy needs will increase and that greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced," says ONS Foundation. "The oil and gas industry will help to produce this energy, but with significantly reduced costs and lower margins. How will we manage it? What exactly needs to be done? And how can we avoid this new situation having a negative impact on innovation, research and technology?"

“The purpose of the theme of Transition is to bring about a useful debate on the transition to a new normal situation in the industry,” says Leif Johan Sevland, CEO of ONS.

Transition is also about the move towards more sustainable energy production.

“In addition to oil and gas, ONS is an event for companies with technologies and methods that can provide cleaner oil production and for companies in the renewable energy sector. We have seen a great deal of interest in Clean Energy Park ahead of ONS 2016,” says Sevland.

From Changes to Transition

In 2014, Changes was the ONS theme. The many changes facing the industry were discussed at the conference. Analysts and leaders predicted much of what has happened since then.

The theme of Transition takes the debate further, to the changes and actions needed to stabilize the industry and to what the new normal situation will be for oil and gas companies, says ONS Foundation.
