Moho Nord using Sonardyne Fusion 6G

March 18, 2015

UTEC awarded Sonardyne International Ltd. a multi-million dollar contract to supply Fusion 6G acoustic positioning technology for the Total-operated Moho Nord subsea project, offshore West Africa.

The Moho Nord development is about 75km off the Congo coast at 450-1100m water depth.

The equipment will be used to support the installation of 230km of rigid pipeline, 23km of flexible pipes, 50km of umbilicals and numerous manifolds, plus over 50 subsea structures and rigid jumpers, which UTEC is responsible for.

Fusion 6G is a subsea construction and survey tool. The LBL equipment that Sonardyne is supplying includes high specification Compatt 6 seabed transponders, ROV-mounted transceivers, associated topside hardware and software.

Sonardyne says that the Compatt 6s will be employed to create a wide area subsea-positioning network within which multiple vessels and ROVs, often working simultaneously in the field, will be tracked. Tasks will include pipeline touch down monitoring, mattress installation and jumper metrology in water depths ranging from 650-1100m.

Moho Nord comprises a total of 28 subsea wellheads tied back to floating production units, with 17 more wells from a new tension leg platform. The construction phase will run for the next two years and will use Technip’s G1200, and multi-purpose deepwater vessel, Deep Pioneer, as the primary installation vessels. First oil is expected during 2015 with an estimated 140,000 boe/d of oil by 2017.

In February, UTEC was awarded the full survey services contract on the Moho Nord development.

Total is the operator of Moho Nord with 53.5% interest. Partners include Chevron (31.5%) and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (15%).
