Transocean incident under investigation

Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority has launched an investigation into an incident on Transocean Barents on 4 March when a roughneck suffered crush injuries.

The injured drill floor worker was on the monkey board, about 10-12m in the derrick, at the time of the accident. He was flown to Ålesund Hospital, western Norway.

Transocean Barents is working on the Ormen Lange field in the Norwegian Sea under a contract with Norske Shell. Activity on the rig has now been halted.

Among other objectives, the PSA investigation will seek to clarify the course of events and identify the direct and underlying causes of the incident.
