Viper Subsea exhibits new line integrity monitor, V-LIM

Viper Subsea exhibited its latest innovation in Aberdeen this week. The V-LIM is a line integrity monitor that provides extremely accurate electrical integrity data across a wide range of insulation resistance levels and can be readily integrated into topsides equipment either as part of a retrofit or as part of a new topsides electrical power unit.

The V-LIM monitors the insulation resistance, polarisation index, voltage, current and capacitance of the umbilical and subsea equipment. A key benefit of the product is its ability to measure insulation resistance levels down to 1 kilo ohm and up into the Giga Ohm range. It is fully compatible with Viper Subsea’s award-winning V-LIFE technology, which was launched last year.

Viper Subsea’s V-LIFE provides a solution to one of subsea engineering’s most common problems – the degradation of insulation resistance in subsea cables and umbilicals. Like the V-LIM, it is installed topsides with no subsea intervention being necessary. V-LIFE is rapidly gaining industry plaudits due to its unique ability to help “heal” aging umbilicals, subsea cables and connectors. This breakthrough technology will save the subsea industry millions in equipment replacement costs and subsea interventions. The technology can also prevent early field decommissioning by extending the serviceable life of umbilicals.

“Both of these products are part of our wider electrical integrity product and service offering” explains Neil Douglas, Managing Director of Viper Subsea. “We are constantly innovating and updating our range of products in response to industry requirements. Our approach is about predicting and solving insulation resistance problems as far in advance as possible which then helps the operators make decisions, have less down time and ultimately provides a far more efficient and cost effective way of working”

Viper Subsea was established in 2007 to provide turnkey subsea distribution systems and products, and to offer the market superior technical and consultancy solutions. Led by Neil Douglas and Max Nodder, Viper Subsea has established itself to serve the subsea market and the company has enjoyed revenue growth of 45% year-on-year.
