17th Rio Oil & Gas closes with record business volume

The 17th Rio Oil & Gas, one of three major events of the industry in the world, has come to a close on 18 September.

Some points highlighted by João Carlos de Luca, president of Brazilian Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Institute (IBP) included the volume of business conducted, the increase in the number of students and the importance of the agreements executed.

De Luca conducted the closing ceremony alongside Maurício Figueiredo, director of IBP and chairman of the event’s organizing committee.

The CEO of Petrobras, Graça Foster, and some directors of the state company attended the plenary session, as well as the chairman of BR Distribuidora, José Lima Neto.

“Petrobras is a company that arouses our admiration and pride. I say that on behalf of IBP and of the whole oil industry,” says De Luca, who asked the audience to applaud the corporation.

De Luca highlighted the special milestones of the 2014 Rio Oil & Gas event, such as the Ministry of Mines and Energy’s (MME) announcement of the 13thround, which will take place in 2015; the release of the priority agenda for the petroleum, gas and biofuels industry, containing an overview of the main issues of the sector; and the professional qualification agreement executed on 18 Septemer between IBP and the French Petroleum Institute (FPI).

De Luca also emphasized the increase in the number of university students attending “Profissional do Futuro” (“Professional of the Future”) program.  An estimated 3000 students visited Rio Oil & Gas 201. Only 2500 visited the 2013 event.

The business round is also a symbol of the fair’s success, with an expected business volume of US$69 million, and 37 anchor companies.

“Our event also affects the city’s economy as a whole. We are trying to quantify this, but one fact is already impressive: the hotel occupation rate in Rio de Janeiro rose from 30% to 86% because of Rio Oil & Gas,” said De Luca.

De Luca ended by confirming that the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, has ensured the realization of Rio Oil & Gas 2016 in Riocentro.

“You can reserve your boxes for the next edition already,” said De Luca.
