Dow introduces several technologies at Rio Oil & Gas

Dow is introducing technologies developed for multiple oil and gas applications, including extraction, production, refining, gas treatment and oil distribution, at Rio Oil & Gas 2014.

Dow says their technologies improve energy efficiency, speed, capacity of oil and gas processes, and product performance, while at the same time, minimizing environmental impact.

Among the technologies to be presented at the event is the Hyperlast exploration line, commercially available in 2018. Dow Hyperlast polyurethane (PU) systems include technologies for flow assurance, both for onshore and offshore pipelines and ultra deepwaters. Due to their high thermal insulation capacity, Hyperlast products allow for excellent oil flow, improving the efficiency of the production and refining.  Hyperlast FJ 7004 is a field joint made with elastomeric PU that ensures heightened robustness and efficiency when applied to pipelines. The product does not damage the pipe when it goes through the transportation rollers, and offers rapid cure times and reduced application cycle times.

Other oil and gas solutions to be featured at the show include:

LGN UCARSORB -UCARSORB natural gas liquids (NGLs) adsorbents add value by separating NGLs at a lower cost, compared to conventional technologies. They are customizable for targeted NGLs, allowing other components to slip through. Overall, the technology allows for ease of use; minimal operator intervention; low pressure drop across the system; small footprint (often less than 6’x6’); low capital and operating expenses; the ability to handle varying gas inlet conditions; minimal electrical demand; and no waste stream to manage.

DEMTROL- High performance demulsifiers act as emulsion breakers of crude oil. DEMTROL products are highly efficient in breaking emulsions, separating oil from water and salt in the extraction process. The solution is also highly efficient at low temperatures, reducing the cost of heating oil.

ROMAX- Dow’s ROMAX Water Clarifiers can help remove oil in water prior to its discharge into the ocean. These products have low toxicity and are made with natural basic components.

NEPTUNE- As a breakthrough thermal insulation system for subsea applications, the NEPTUNE System is a major development in flow assurance and meets the challenge of increasingly harsh conditions associated with subsea oil production. The system can be used in applications from the wellhead to the delivery point, including pipes, field joints and subsea architecture, and is designed to perform across a range of temperatures – from the extreme chill of arctic conditions (up to -40oC) to the intense heat of oil production (up to +160°C).

IntegraPac – Available in several sizes to adjust to specific needs, IntegraPac is a series of compact, pre-engineered and integrated ultrafiltration skids. IntegraPac ensures reduced material use, engineering design and transportation costs, in addition to faster assembly, higher efficiency, optimization of resources and the production of high-quality water. In the oil and gas industry, this ultrafiltration technology can be used in refineries to generate potable water, pre-treatment of reverse osmosis and water reuse.

FILMTEC SR-90– Dow is the industry leader in developing technology for the removal of sulfate ions from seawater, using FILMTEC SR-90 nanofiltration membranes. Well drilling in deep waters requires sulfate-free water.  FILMTEC SR-90 nanofiltration membranes can be used to purify seawater, which contains strontium and barium, substances that can cause sulfate precipitation, resulting in scaling problems that affect reservoir productivity. The FILMTEC SR-90 membrane technology for seawater treatment is cost effective and environmentally friendly.

AQUCAR- AQUCAR microbiocides are used to treat water for use in oil and gas field applications. The solution prevents corrosion, acidity and pluggage in drilling systems, packer fluids and water pipelines.  AQUCAR microbiocides also offer excellent environmental benefits, and are highly stable and soluble in all types of water, including brackish water.

Complete Epoxy-based Portfolio – Dow’s epoxy-based portfolio includes D.E.R. Epoxy Resins, D.E.N. Epoxy Novolac Resins, D.E.H. Hardeners and Curing Agents, and FORTEGRA Epoxy Tougheners for industrial coating and compound applications. Dow’s resins, hardeners and specialty dispersions are part of a family of solutions used in the formulation of high-performance, anti-corrosion coatings for oil and gas assets, and other infrastructures to meet a wide range of requirements of the protective and maintenance coating sector. These technologies provide high chemical and thermal resistance, toughness and curing in extreme conditions, such as low temperatures. Additionally, Dow’s water-based resin dispersions are free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Dow also develops high-performance compounds for a number of applications, including industrial pipelines for oil platforms and storage tanks, among other equipment for the exploration and production, transportation, and refining and processing segments. These technologies are light weight, and provide strong chemical and mechanical resistance at high temperatures.
