ONS: Record visitor numbers at ONS 2014

This year's ONS, which ended Thursday 28 August, has seen record attendance numbers, at 91,682, without counting those visiting the event's festival in Stavanger harbour.

Organisers said 30,531 visitors attended the show, at Stavanger Forum, on Wednesday alone, setting a new day record for the event, held in Stavanger every other year to Offshore Europe. The ONS conference had 700 delegates every day and 1380 exhibitors.

ONS CEO Leif Johann Sevland said new venues, hotels, new varied conference sessions, and better infrastructure had helped boost this year's show.

Costs have been a big talking point at the show, and a theme touched on by many speakers. Read our coverage from some of the week's debates:

Sevland said the industry was focusing on "working smarter," finding news ways of working, thinking and collaborating. "It has been an important issue," he says.

Sevland (pictured, photo from ONS/Fredrik Ringe) said innovators like Tesla Motor's CEO Elon Musk were providing inspiration to the industry, by talking about and showing how to think about things differently, from solar power to electric cars. Musk, who is also CEO at SpaceX and chairman at SolarCity, gave a keynote speach on the first day of ONS. See Sevland outline why he think's Musk could be an influencer in the oil industry here

"We have also seen a lot of discussion about mature fields," Sevland says. "1% increased recovery at Ekofisk would pay for three years free kindergarten in Norway. We have also seen a much more global presence," he added. "We have had delegations from all over the world. We had international parallel sessions every day and international companies searching for new technologies. We are also seeing a lot of cross-overs, technology being transferred from one industry to another."

The show in numbers: 1380 exhibitors, 91,682 visitors, 60,000 trips taken on Stavanger public transport, 14 festival pavilions, 20,000 at the festival concert and fireworks.
