Rosneft planning 2016/17 Barents and Pechora drilling

Rosneft has started field works at five license blocks in the Barents and Pechora Seas ahead of planned drilling in 2016-2017.

The five blocks are: West Prinovozemelsky, located in the northeastern part of the Barents sea near the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, Perseevsky, in the northwestern part of the Barents sea, and at the South Russky, South Prinovozemelsky, and West Matveevsky license blocks, in the Pechora Sea.

The following seismic surveys will be acquired at these blocks:

  • West Prinovozemelsky - 2800sq km 3D seismic exploration
  • Perseevsky - 6500 sq km 2D seismic exploration
  • South Prinovozemelsky - 2000sq km 2D seismic exploration
  • West Matveevsky - 2000sq km 2D seismic exploration

Seismic work will be performed by a specialized research vessel simultaneously with the shipboard gravi magnetometric survey. All work will be performed in three seismic parties.

In addition, engineering surveys with the purpose of obtaining information about engineering-geological and engineering-ecological conditions of the sites for two projectable outposts is planned. Drilling is planned for 2016 and 2017.

The geological surveys on the Barents and Pechora Seas shelf is carried out by Rosneft subsidiary RN-Shelf-Arctic.
